On Friday October 30th from 10 to 11:30am, the Itaewon-Hannam Global Village Center, in cooperation with the Korea Family Counseling Center, will be holding a special Parenting Abroad Seminar. This session will be led in English by Dr. Eunsun Joo, who is one of the counselors from the Family Counseling Center. She holds an MA and Phd in Psychology from the University of Chicago and is currently an associate professor at Duksung Women’s University.
Through a lecture and discussion period participating parents will be able to learn more about how to meet the challenges of raising children while living abroad. We will be providing information on different activities for children that can be found in Seoul, and there will also be the possibility of arranging some follow-up sessions in which people could get more specialized counseling for particular age groups or situations. There is no charge to join this initial seminar but spaces are limited so please contact us as soon as possible to register.

We will have a Jazz festival for the citizens and jazz mania in Seoul in Kwanak gu Science exposition and Nakseoungdae Park.
The festival will be held in Oct.9(Fri) to 10(Sat), 2009.

In this festival, the following international famous jazz musician will perform for this event.
The Korean musicians are Jaedeok Jeon, Ung san, Malo, and wonderful play jazz band.
The Foreign musicians are Kenjiomet quartetti, Ronn Branton and Martin Jacobsen & friends.
You will enjoy wonderful and fantastic jazz music that is created and performed by these musicians.
Also, Jazz Morning Star Contest will be held for the amateurs and underground musicians.
In the event, a variety programs will be prepared.

The Seoul Global Center is having a living orientation on Oct 16 at 10:00am~12:30pm.
This is a great opportunity to learn and share your living experience with other guests. There will be an informative presentation and a Q&A session with refreshments. We will also have a lecture by Mr. Andrew Salmon, called “Korean Food, Korean People”.

Englishman Andrew Salmon covers the Koreas for Forbes, Monocle, The South China Morning Post, The Times and The Washington Times. A graduate of the University of Kent and the University of London’s School of Oriental and African Studies, he is the author of American Business and the Korean Miracle: U.S. Enterprises in Korea, 1866 – The Present (2003). His interests include martial arts, history, wining and dining.
Author and JoongAng Daily restaurant critic Andrew Salmon will present the ingredients and characteristics of Korean food and the development of a modern restaurant culture in Seoul. He will also address Korea’s failure to promote its excellent national cuisine internationally, beyond Japan. Finally, as the author of the 2002 restaurant guidebook Seoul Food Finder, he will give his personal top ten Seoul restaurants. |

Hangul Proclamation Day
Hangul Day is Korean national commemorative day celebrating invention of Hangul.
Because King Sejong the Great proclaimed “Hunmin Jeongeum” in lunar calendar Sep. 1446,
Hangul Day was declared as a national commemoration day to be marked on October 9th.
Various events about Hangul, such as composition, or calligraphy contests,
are held around Hangul day in Korea.
Our center also has a event of Korean Calligraphy experience on October 10th!!

說 話
有時候，你被人誤解，自己不想爭辯，所以選擇沈默。
本來就不是所有的人都得了解自己，因此你認為不必對全世界喊話。
卻也有時候，你被最愛的人誤解，自己難過到不想爭辯，也只有選擇沈默。
全世界都可以不懂你，但他應該懂，若他竟然不能懂，還有什麼話可說?
那麼，不想說話，就不說吧，在多說無益的時候，也許沈默就是最好的解釋。
以退為進，以默為辯。
至 少 要 平 靜
在你跌入人生谷底的時候，身旁的人都告訴你：要堅強，而且要快樂。
堅強是絕對需要的，但是快樂?在這種情形下，恐怕是太為難你了。
畢竟，誰能在跌得頭破血流的時候還覺得高興？
但是至少可以做到平靜。平靜地看待這件事，平靜地把其他該處理的事處理好。
平靜，沒有快樂，也沒有不快樂。能做到這一點，你就已經有了復元的能量。
靜則明，動則昏。
彎 腰
和別人發生意見上的紛歧，甚至造成言語上的衝突，所以你悶悶不樂，因為你覺得都是別人惡意。
別再耿耿於懷了，回家去擦地板吧。
拎一塊抹布，彎下腰，雙膝著地，把你面前這張地板的每個角落來回擦拭乾淨。
然後重新省思自己在那場衝突，所說過的每一句話。
現在，你發現自己其實也有不對的地方，是不是?
你漸漸心平氣和了，是不是?
有時候你必須學習彎腰，因為這個動作可以讓自己謙卑。
勞動身體的同時，你也擦亮了自己的心緒。
而且，還擁有了一張光潔的地板呢。這是你的另一個收穫。
謙卑中求，恭敬中求，無私中求。
單 純
因為思慮過多，所以你常常把自己的人生複雜化了。
明明是活在現在，卻總是念念不忘著過去，又憂心忡忡著未來；
堅持攜帶著過去、未來與現在同行，你的人生當然拖泥帶水。
單純是一種恩寵狀態。
單純地以皮膚感受天氣的變化，
單純地以鼻腔品嘗雨後的草香，
單純地以眼睛統攝遠山近景。
單純地活在當下。 而當下其實無所謂是非真假。
既然沒有是非，就不必思慮；
沒有真假，就無須念念不忘又憂心忡忡。
無是非真假，不就像在做夢一樣了嗎?
就單純地把自己的人生當成夢境去執行吧。
用單純的心，處理複雜的事。
別 浪 費 了
今天的你又不開心了，因為又有人在言語間刺傷了你。
你不喜歡吵架，所以你離開；
可是你只是離開了那，卻沒有離開被那人傷害的情境，因此你愈想愈生氣。
愈有氣，你就愈沒有力氣去理會別的事情，
許多更該用心去做去想去處理的事件，
就在你漫天漫地的心煩意亂之中，
被輕忽被漠視被省略了。
因為，你只是一心一意地在生氣。
在情緒上做文章，這是對自己的浪費，而且是很壞的浪費。
畢竟，生氣也是要花力氣的，而且，生氣一定傷元氣。
所以，聰明的你，別讓情緒控制了你，
當你又要生氣之前，不妨輕聲地提醒自己一句：別浪費了。
有些人常起煩惱，
因為別人一句無心的話，他卻有意的接受。

曾經有一段時間，你心情低落，甚至懶得拉開窗簾，看著窗外的陽光。
因此你當然也忘了，去看看窗台上那一盆每天都需要喝水的瑪格麗特。

◆Field of foreigner support, one part-time contracted public officer (B-class.)

Work place and method after employment
◆Place of work : Yeoksam1 culture center 5th floor, Yeoksam Global Village center.
◆Method of work - 5 days in a week (M~F).
◆Vacation (acknowledged by Gangnam district public officer service regulation)
◆working hours : 4 hours in a day (09:00~13:00) applied public service regulations.

◆1st exam : paper application(examination on requisite of qualification.)
◆2nd exam(final) : interview(applicant who only passed 1st exam.)

Qualification of applying
◆One reside in south korea at least 6 months or more. (gender doesn't matter)
◆A foreigner or marriage immigrant graduated from 4 year college from in or out of south korea.
◆F2, F4, F5 or B-7 visa holders or one can apply for it.
◆English speaker (nationality doesn't matter)
◆Korean speaker, and long term resident. Gangnam district resident preferred.

◆2 year long contract(it can be extended within 5 year range depend on working accomplishment.)

◆The term of issuing application : 2008. ３. ~2008. 3. (10 days)
◆Method of issue : download from gangnam-ku homepage, or get it from Self-administration office of Gangnam district office.
◆The term of submitting application : 2008. 03. ~ 03. / 09:00~18:00 (only during public officer's working hour)
◆Place of submit : Self-administration office of Gangnam district office
◆Method of submit : fill out the application and submit it by hand during applying period.

◆The amount of salary is less than 50% of what full time contracted public officer (B-class) received (in 2007 standard, year-long salary of part-time contract is 17,588 thousand won.) And there is no bonus
◆Applicants must submit their application by hand. please download application and other documents form before come to the office since the office is small to allow all people in one time. (we don't receive application via post, or group submitting.)
◆We do not return the submitted application, and if there is fraud information according to application later on, we withdraw acceptance or employment.
◆Any disadvantage from wrong information or inability of contact is applicant's charge.
◆Applicants should present one hour before to the interview test center with social security card, application ticket, and pen. (only who passed paper application examination)
